Hi All

I am new to this forum

I have a 2013 6HP Tohatsu 4 stroke outboard engine I use to power my 9 foot Achilles inflatable

It has been a great and reliable engine. I took it out of storage in by basement 2 weeks ago. Did the normal spring maintenance. Change the oil, fuel filter and the gear oil in the lower end, Also replaced the impeller. I put it into a bucket of water and sterted the engine. Stared on the 1st pull. I noticed it was not "peeing" water so I turned it of after about a minute. Hooked up a hose to the flushing port and turned on the water and it ran water out of the top end just fine. I restarted it and still no water out of the top end. I took a thin wire and put it into the "pee" hole. Felt like there might have been some crystalized salt in there. The engine is run in salt water and is flushed with fresh water after each use and it was flushed before I put it away last fall. I started the engine and water was now coming out of the pee hole but stoped after a couple of minites and a noticed just staeam was coming out of the hole. I turned the engine off.

At any rate, I got some outboard descaling fluid and mixed it accord to the directions. Again I ran the engine. The descaling mixture ran through the engine for a few minutes and then turned to steam. I turned the engine off after about a minute of the steam.

I have started the engine and let it run 4 or 5 more time. Each time it turns to steam after a few minutes, I let it cool for several hours between running it

I am not sure what to do next

I have checked the impeller and the key is installed properly. I did use am OEM Impeller and not sure if thal might be the problem

Anybody have any ideas????

Thanks

Is the water pipe from the impeller ( inside the leg) connected properly to the powerhead ?
The salt in the pee hole might indicate the waterways around the head is blocked with salt. Its an easy fix on a 2 stroke but much more complex on a 4.
Some have set up a system where the engine is placed in a bucket and a electric pump circulates the descaler for a few hrs .

The waterpipe is connected.

I noticed when flushing water through a hose using the flushing port, the water would come out the lower end rater than the pee hole. I had to use the higher water preaseure of the hose to force it out the pee hole.

How do you block the lower end so the descaler is forced to go through the block and head? It would be nice if it could be connected at the pee hole and rune the descaler backward through the block, but it doesn't appear that there is a way to do that.

I guess I don't understand why it flows when cold but not when it warms up

Thanks for your suggestion. I think I am going to have to figure out how to force it through!!!

Thanks

That happened with our previous T 9.8 2 stroke. Turned out to be blocked thermostat.
Does the 6HP even have a thermostat????
